Thomas Modeen

Thomas has over two decades of architectural practice experience in the design, planning and construction of a variety of interiors, buildings and urban projects in Europe, North America, Asia and the Middle East. Having a keen interest in various evolving technologies relating to architecture, he is also involved in various R&D ventures relating to the manufacturing and construction industries, specializing in the use of various CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/ Computer Aided Manufacturing) in the realization of products, interiors and architecture. He’s taught at number of universities in the Europe, Asia, and the Middle-East, most recently as an Associate Professor in the MFA/ Design Studies Department, an Interdisciplinary Design program, at Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar.
He has lectured in Europe, Asia, United States, Australia and the Middle-East. His work has been widely exhibited in Europe and the Middle-East, including solo exhibitions at the Asia House and the nous Gallery in London, the la fontaine Centre Contemporary Art in Bahrain, Dar Al-Funoon Gallery in Kuwait and the Fire Station Art Center in Doha. He’s also partaken in group exhibitions at the RIBA and the Mosaic House/ Museum of Architecture in London; the Syn_athroisis group exhibition in Thessaloniki, and Athens, Good Design Maronouchi in Tokyo, and at Pro Artibus in his native Finland. Recent endeavors include co-chairing the biannual Tasmeem-Doha conference (the biggest design conference in the region) as well as an international symposium on Interdisciplinary Design.
